Observations et histoire de la classification de la description
Considèré comme bonne espèce par Holland en 1896. Mis en synonymie avec la varié té rougeti Guerin de terpsichore Butler (aujourd'hui eponina Cramer) par Aurivillius (1898). Eltringham (1912) suit cette position. Le Doux (1928) considère buxtoni comme une forme de la sous-espèce manjaca de eponina.
