Observations et histoire de la classification de la description
Classified as a subspecies of periphanes Oberthür by Eltringham (1911, 1912, 1916) on the reason that it flies in Zambia and Zimbabwe with the other forms, even though it appears to be isolated in Angola. Pierre & Bernaud (2014) classify beni as a synonym of periphanes.
