Observations et histoire de la classification de la description
Originally described as closely related to Trimen’s ambigua Trimen and bella Weymer. This description was classified as a variety of acrita Hewitson by Strand (1910). Eltringham (1912) classified bellona as a subspecies of acrita. He noted, however, that the females of bellona possess a distinctly separate genital plate. Le Doux (1932) retains bellona’s status as a subspecies of acrita. Pierre (1987) elevates this description to the rank of species. Gardiner & Bernaud (2026) demonstrate that bellona is synonymous with ambigua.
