Observations et histoire de la classification de la description
The authors state that Trimen’s subspecies rubescens is invalid, as white forms are found in Kivu. In 1928, they revisited this position in an article in which they explained that the white female form is, in fact, the type female of rubescens. It must therefore be concluded that albula is a synonym. Furthermore, Joicey and Talbot also reconsider the fact that rubescens is merely an aberration, and acknowledge that this description refers to the East African subspecies, despite a slight overlap in distribution ranges in Kivu. Pierre & Ducarme (2019) demonstrate that the white females of Kivu are distinct from the subspecies rubescens.
