Observations et histoire de la classification de la description
Eltringham (1912) states that the proliferation of forms and subspecies within this taxon clearly indicates that several distinct species appear to have been confused. The genital armatures vary greatly. He therefore suspects that pudorina (in the northern part of the range) and bellona (in Angola) are distinct species, but classifies them as subspecies. Pierre (1987) revisited this group and highlighted a fundamental character, the pseudo-uncus, which can be used to distinguish several species.
